Kazbegi is one of the most interesting tourist attractions of Georgia. Mount Kazbegi is one of the most important mountains of the Caucasus, located in Kazbegi district on the border of Georgia and North Ossetia. In Georgian legends it is said that it was precisely on Mount Kazbegi that the hero Amirani (the Georgian Prometheus) was chained as punishment for stealing the fire.
On the slope of Mount Kazbegi is located Gergeti Trinity Church (XIV c) at the altitude of 2,175 m. This amazing small church attracts travelers for its wonderful location and fantastic view of the top of Mount Kazbegi and river Dariali gorge. Day trip to Kazbegi starts with departure from Tbilisi in the early morning hours, in the direction of Kazbegi (160km). Drive through Georgian Army Road, between Tbilisi (Georgia) and Vladikavkaz (Russia). On the way there are very interesting places to visit.
Ananuri Fortress is a castle complex from XVI century, located on the Aragvi River. The Ananuri Fortress stands on the famous Georgian Army Road and has beautiful views of a large lake. Its high stone walls protect two churches, a watchtower and a reservoir. The facade of the main church is beautifully carved with animal, floral and Celtic style.
Resort is located at 2200 meters above sea level. The first bottom station is 1,990 meters above sea level and the last top station, called Sadzele is located at 3,306 meters. The resort offers high quality skiing facilities. The ski season lasts from December to April.
Gergeti Trinity Church was built in XII-XIV century and is located on the southern slopes of Mkinvarcveri at an altitude of 2170 meters. Gergeti Trinity Church is an important and remarkable temple with its beautiful landscape. Gergeti Trinity Church stands on a hill just below the towering white massif of Kazbek (5033 meters). Built six hundred years ago its stones survived blizzards, rain and invasion and stand as a proud symbol of Georgian resilience in the face of adversity.
After visiting Gergeti Church drive to Dariali gorge. It is the gorge on the border between Russia and Georgia. Darial was historically important as the passage only across the Caucasus. It has been fortified for a long time - at least since 150 BC. There is Tamaris Fortress called Dariali Castle, which was built many years ago and is located on the right side of the river Tergi. On the left side of the river Tergi there is a new monastery complex on the cliff which is about 70 meters high.
